Dear Voters:

My name is Lucinda Coumou and I have been a public servant in Clark County for over 16 years, working as a lawyer with the District Attorney’s Office – first as a prosecutor and then for the last 11 years with the Civil Division of the office.  I am currently a Chief Deputy District Attorney and I am pleased to announce that I am a candidate for District Court Judge in Department 28.

The District Court has original jurisdiction in cases involving amounts in controversy over $10,000 and it has final appellate jurisdiction in cases arising in Justice Court.  Department 28 is one of seven new District Courts that have been created to handle the growing civil caseload in Clark County.  In 2008 alone, civil case filings in the Eighth Judicial District Court increased by a total of 16.5 percent – from 25,249 in 2007 to 29,426 in 2008.

I am uniquely qualified for this position. I have handled jury trials in both State and Federal Court, for criminal and civil cases.  For over 11 years I have represented the District Attorney and his Office, Clark County and its employees, in State and Federal Court.  There is simply no substitute for hands-on experience.  My qualifications go beyond that – As a Deputy District Attorney for 16 years, I have demonstrated a commitment to public service.  I will make a genuine commitment to the citizens of Clark County to prepare diligently in order to run a fair, effective and efficient courtroom.

I invite you to read more about me and learn more about my experience.  I hope I will earn your vote.

Sincerely,

Lucinda Coumou
